All year the fourth grade has been working with teachers from COCA through a STEAM grant. One day each week the COCA instructors spent the morning in the classroom with the students. They followed the journey of Lewis and Clark, learned how to make scientific notes and drawings, and record their findings in a journal. They imagined traveling to and exploring Mars and crafted models of Mars Rovers. They studied famous works of art, drew their own version incorporating themselves into the picture, and then wrote a letter to a friend explaining their experience while “in the the picture.” For several weeks they worked with an employee from Boeing and learned about circuits. They concluded the program with a STEAM Showcase. Parents and students were invited to view the displays they created with the work they completed throughout the year. The students had fun showing off and explaining all the amazing things they had learned.
